MAKING A GUIDE BOOK TO NSW Part 2
So I thought it was time to give you all a little update on my project to create a beautiful guide to all that is word of mouth and underground in New South Wales Australia.
It’s already been such a journey and a really exciting and pleasurable one. I came up with the idea to create a guide book to NSW before Christmas last year. I had just completed an exhibition and event to launch my travel blog and long term dream to create a platform to share people’s travel stories. To really fulfil on my original dream I had to create a book. This has been my wish for many years to create a book. Mainly to make my Dad stoked and happy.
From having an exhibition bringing together photographers and artists in Sydney I already had a good idea of some people I wanted in my team for this project. Then I went on to invite several other people be it from Instagram, friends of friends and generally inspiring people who love travel, photography and NSW people and Sydney hangouts.
I spent one Saturday afternoon brainstorming the project, the timelines, the key elements such as the chapters, who I wanted to invite to the first get together and then I left it for a while.
I then, later than I had imagined, got about 12 people to meet in pub in April, lucky for me lots of people turned up, people I was extremely excited to have in a project, and work together. I had whipped together a presentation of the project and my idea. Vocalising key points such as the guide book market today, the Lonely Planet having not changed and having a Kangaroo on the front and full of text and a lot of noise on the internet. I wanted to create a group project of beautiful inspiration tips and trips of places and people you really wouldn’t know about unless you were in the know or knew someone in the know.
Four months later we are a team of 14, we have started to create the guide book in Adobe In Design, we have been on a group trip and planning another. Our social media is about to kick off with Twitter, Instagram and Facebook and it would be great if you would come and along and follow the journey!
I am excited to let you know that we have launched our website wordofmouthguide.com and we can accept payments online. The book will be ready and printed by the 9th December 2016 which is the date of our launch party. The site shows you all the amazing people involved so check everyone out and start following their adventures and creativity on Instagram, you will love what you see. We need your support in buying the book now, so we can send it to the printers in October and you will have this beauty in your hands by Christmas!
A lot of team effort and work has and is going into making this book.
The last few months have been a lot of planning, organising, creating the group, setting up the dropbox folder, project plan and getting printing quotes. The next few months we are getting heaps of awesome content, photographing awesome people and extraordinary places and making the guide book! The last two months will be marketing, networking and creating and awesome launch party and event for you all to join!
It’s been a great adventure so far and I am looking forward to the next chapter and seeing you all at the finish line. Any ideas for content please get in touch, I would love to hear from you. Add us on Instagram @wordofmouthguide to get your regular updates and sign up on our website to follow the journey and get all the top tips and trips around this beautiful area called New South Wales, Australia.
Everyone involved in this project is extremely talented and busy, and its great to be creating a little community and hub within the group of photographers, artists, creatives, travel enthusiats, graphic designers, videographers to name a few. I hope with this mix of skill set sets and backgrounds (Colombian, English, Australian, German and Australian), we can create something interesting, unique and inspiring whether you are based in New South Wales or not that everyone can enjoy. We are a collective and a team and bringing ideas to life!
