MY TOP 6 SOUTH AMERICAN READS

MY TOP 6 SOUTH AMERICAN READS

My top 6 reads on off the beaten track South American travel.

So it turns out you guys love South America. Luckily so do I and I have been lucky enough to have a few amazing trips which I will share over time and hopefully get many stories from others on this topic. To get your creative juices flowing why not try picking up one of these following books. I hope this stirs up some excitement about South America and your next trip. Heether you are buying these to read for your next adventure or to bring you back to those backpacking good days get your read on.

  1. The Gringo Trail

Whenever I travel to a new country I like a pick a book for the trip. Ideally about the place I am travelling too. Before heading to Brazil with two girls at 19 I went to a specialist travel bookstore and got this bad boy and I really not sure what I loved more Brazil or this book! I spent the whole trip reeling off interesting facts about South America and being completely engrossed in this book. It’s a really great read and Brazil’s not that bad either!

2.   Marching Powder

This was a book I found in a hostel in Thailand with another trip with my trusty travel buddy Mary. I must say I think I preferred this book to my trip to Thailand and cried like a baby at the end. Highly, highly recommended.

I read this book at uni with Jack Johnson playing on my laptop dreaming I was travelling not in Newcastle Univeristy Studying. This book really captred my heart and imagination and is a really great read. South America definitely has a dark side and all of this books explore part of that side.

6.  South America on a Shoestring

I really hestiated if I would put this. You can’t go anywhere in South America without seeing this book and it has to be put on the list! I am the worst at reading travel guides as I prefer to ask people. Over time I have realised they can also be pretty helpful and save a lot of time and give some pretty handy tips for local travel, bites and things to visit and be aware of
